TANGO RECITAL

"From Church to Tango"
"'From Church to Tango'  was a lovely journey through the history of Tango. Alejandro included a diverse variety of musical examples, and he has MASTERED the art of balancing musical entertainment with educational components. In an ideal world, there would be similar shows put together for every genre of music and dance."

"REFRESHING concert that allowed for cultural exposure that most of our students wouldn't normally experience. Alejandro took the time to teach the audience about the history of the bandoneon, Argentine Tango, and much more. We count ourselves lucky to have had him on campus!"

The bandoneón (an accordion-like instrument) is the rare and emblematic instrument of Argentine tango. Invented in 19th century Germany to accompany religious music and as a portable alternative to the massive organ, today, it is almost exclusive of tango ensembles. Accompanied by the piano, the pairing could not be more fitting.

"From Church to Tango" includes tango masterpieces from different periods and styles, but it also explores other kinds of music, thus displaying the versatility of both instruments. Although this is a performance and not a lecture, the performers interact with the audience to guide them through the listening experience.
